Policy for Off-Campus Study

Conditions for Off-Campus Study

Students must meet the following requirements to study abroad:

Current BW Status

First-Year Students:

  • Faculty-Led Seminars: First Year students are eligible to apply to participate in Faculty-Led Seminars. Faculty Leaders interview all participants, and final admittance is at faculty discretion. Please note not all students are invited to interview, and preference may be given to Juniors and Seniors. 
    • After the applicant has completed one semester, Explorations will verify that students meet the minimum required GPA for the program and that their student conduct record is clear. Students who do not meet these requirements will be removed from the program. 
  • Traditional Full-Semester Study Abroad: First-Year students must complete a full semester (minimum of 16 weeks) of study on-campus before they may submit an application to study abroad the following semester. 


Transfer Students: Transfer Students are eligible to apply to faculty-led programs during their first semester at BW.  

  • Must have completed at least one semester (12 credits minimum) at the previous institution
  • GPA minimum (2.5)
  • Clear student conduct record
  • Recommendation (from BW or a professor at a previous institution)
  • Faculty Leaders interview all participants, and final admittance is at faculty discretion. Please note not all students are invited to interview. 
    • After the applicant has completed one semester, Explorations will verify that students meet the minimum required GPA for the program and that their student conduct record is clear. Students who do not meet these requirements will be removed from the program. 

GPA

Your cumulative grade point average has to be 2.5 or above (the host institution might have a higher GPA requirement.)  If lower than 2.5, students may appeal with the permission of the Explorations Director. GPA requirements for faculty-led programs are set by the instructor.

Student Conduct record

Serious or multiple violations of university policy may jeopardize your eligibility for Center for Global Explorations programs. Students will not be eligible for a program if (this list is not all-inclusive):
  • The student is currently on a disciplinary status (e.g., probation or suspension)
  • The student is responsible for a pattern (e.g., 3 or more) of incidents of alcohol/drug possession/use
  • The student is responsible for any single severe/high-risk offense, including any incident of violence or drug distribution.  

Bursar's approval

Your account must be paid in full or at least making current payments to the university for the current term.

Insurance

You must be willing to accept and pay for an international health insurance policy as required by the University.
