NOTE: Program includes Spring 2019 mini-B course being held on Thursdays from 6:15 pm-8:45pm. Plus May-Term travel. All Discovering Brazil course credit counts towards Spring 2019. More specific course details are included in the online application.

About the Program
Four amazing locations, one experience of a lifetime! Experience the diversity of sophisticated cities, world renowned beaches, world heritage sites, and sports venues. Immerse yourself in understanding the people, sports, and economy of Brazil during this 18-day tour of Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Honey Island, and Iguazu Falls.

Courses
For the program, students are enrolled in one of the following Spring 2019 Mini-B courses. The course will be held on Thursdays from 6:15pm-8:45pm.

  • Fulfill 2  International Studies Core Requirements
  • Complete the Experiential Learning Requirement (EXP)
OR

BUS or HPE 363IE            Discovering Brazil 
  • Fulfill 2  International Studies Core Requirements
  • Complete the Experiential Learning Requirement (EXP)
  • BUS 363 will count toward the Business Administration, Management, Marketing, and International Business Majors
  • HPE 363 will count toward general Health, Physical Education and Sports majors
*Note: if you go over 18 credit hours (including these 4 hours) for Spring 2019, you will be charged the overload credit fees

Tentative Itinerary
Travel Portion
May 6 - 10 Rio de Janiero: Cristo Rentor, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Maracana Stadium, historical walking tour
May 11 - 16 Curitiba: City tour, sessions at University, company visits
May 17 - 19 Ilha do Mel: Train through Atlantic Rainforest, Ecological preserve
May 20 - 22 Iguazu Falls: World Heritage site, Brazilian and Argentine side of the falls
 
 * Given changing dollar exchange rates, BW reserves the right to make adjustments to the itinerary and program costs as needed.

Program Cost and Fees
 Program Fee: $4,400 
*Cost is subject to change and will be finalized Fall 2018. See Study Abroad for specifics including financial aid. 
Includes travel, lodging, events, and some meals
$300 non-refundable deposit required to secure your space in the program.

Tuition:
Full Time Students: The 4-hours of tuition will be counted toward the Spring 2017 semester.
Part- Time Students: Will be charged the tuition costs for 4 credit hours.

What’s included?
Tuition, flight, housing, land transportation, some meals, admission fees, tours.
 
What’s not included?
Passport, some meals, spending money, visa, vaccinations. 
Based on financial need additional financial aid may be available.
 
Eligibility:
Prior language study or course-work NOT required
Required – 2.5 GPA, clear student conduct record, must have completed 1 semester at BW to be eligible to apply
Final admittance is subject to faculty leader approval after interviews have been conducted. (note: not all students will be invited for an interview)
 

Application Process

Before you are accepted in a Study Abroad program, Explorations/Study Abroad will verify that you meet the following requirements:
  • You meet the minimum GPA required for the program you have selected.
  • You have not had any student conduct violations within the past 12 months (we will verify this with the student conduct office). 
  • You have completed at least 1 semester at BW.
Apply
  1. Click the  "Apply Now" button.
  2. Login using your BW user name and password.
  3. Read and complete the list of application requirements.
  4. Complete the Interest Statement:
    1. Open this section on your application portal
    2. Answer the questions.
    3. Copy and paste your answers in a word document 
    4. Email your word document to your academic advisor. Your advisor will need to review your responses prior to completing the Advisor Recommendation (outlined below). 
  5. Request your Electronic Academic Advisor Recommendation:
    1. Open this section on your application portal.
    2. Search for your advisor by name
    3. Click send.
    4. Your advisor will receive an email letting them know they need to login to the Study Abroad website to complete a recommendation form. 
  6. Upload a profile photo
  7. Read the Academic Expectations- open on your application portal and electronically sign
  8. Read the Risk and Requirements Form- open on your application portal and electronically sign
  9. Faculty Interview- Once the above items are complete, the faculty will be in touch to schedule an interview. Final admittance will be determined by the faculty leaders. *Please note, not all applicants will be invited to interview. 
If you are accepted in the program, you will be notified via email from the Study Abroad Office. You will need to login to your BW Study Abroad Application Portal to access Part 2 of the application. You will need to commit to participating and submit a $300 non-refundable deposit (details on how to submit the deposit will be outlined on your application portal). This deposit will reserve your space in the program. The remainder of the documents on Part 2 are due by your programs application deadline. 

If you decide to cancel your application after committing, your deposit will be forfeited and you may be subject to an additional $300 cancellation fee. Details regarding this are outlined in the Statement of Responsibility and Waiver of Liability.pdf
